For personal growth and development, here are five ideas to think about.
Working on mindset
The basis of a successful endeavor is a success oriented
mind.
It has already been eluded to in this blog several times that victory and success start with the mind.
It has already been eluded to in this blog several times that victory and success start with the mind.
Once the mind deems an objective achievable, it is a start in the aim to achieve. Quoting Napoleon Hill:
An example is losing a game of chess to an opponent you are 100% certain you can beat. Nomatter one, two, three or four consecutive defeats, you will still challenge that person to another match.
What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieveNomatter the failures that may be experienced en route, the light to fight on will still flicker.
An example is losing a game of chess to an opponent you are 100% certain you can beat. Nomatter one, two, three or four consecutive defeats, you will still challenge that person to another match.
It is because you know you have a victory within you but you
just have not found it YET.
It’s a common chapter told in many success stories. DETERMINATION is usually the term they use to describe it.
That said, it is important to work on the mindset. To focus
on success instead of misfortune, to see sculpture art where others see a pile
of stone and to never lose focus.
In short, its all about developing a positive mindset. The
beauty of a positive mindset is that it looks forward to the next trial/
opportunity/ chance in case of the 'inevitable' bumps of failures in life.
Attitude
Without a doubt, something anyone loves is never a burden.
If you love your job or career choice, waking up early in the morning or
sleeping late is never a burden.
However, not everyone has the job of their dreams and loving
whats already on the table is easier said than done. Then there is the notion
about “learning to love what you do” as a way of overcoming the bore.
In fairness, the notion oversimplifies the issue and it is
highly subjective. Some people grow to love their jobs but others have their
hate for the job multiplied by the day.
This month, try to incorporate a venture/ activity that stirs
your attitude into the right direction. This is because you cant nurture a
positive mindset when you already have a broken attitude.
You might not have the job of your dreams, business
opportunities or a money generating endeavor that actually stirs up your
interest. The good news is that attitude can be fixed despite all that. Some
times it is just a matter of giving yourself time to do something you love.
It might be going out with friends, playing your favourite
sports, going to see a game or building yourself a go-cart for personal
amusement. Just doing something fun to rid oneself of the negativities that are
brought about by everyday events.
Give yourself time to do something that gives you joy.
Take action
To move forward everyone needs action. It is one thing
thinking or seeing a great opportunity, acting on it is a different world
altogether. There are a lot of bright ideas and idealists in the world today;
what makes them stagnant is the inability to act on those ideas.
Acting on an idea is not about waking up and signing a
million dollar contract. It is about creating the attitude to act within
oneself.
It starts with the small things, these things grow into
larger things. It is like building a character. A liar never starts with a big
lie, neither does a notorious bank robber start by performing a global heist.
Such negative acts start from small things. Thieving could have started at
kindergarten level, stealing legos from other kids. It could then have evolved
to stealing from parents’ purses, then pickpocketing until it grew to a
national or global scale.
So why not build a positive behavior from the small things.
If you always planned on joining the gym why not start there?
Planned on learning new recipes? Stop stalling, start with
that.
Always wanted to take early morning jogs? Start acting.
Wanted to go on a diet? Stop procrastinating.
If you manage to act on those small things, in the future it
will be easier to take action on bigger choices because it becomes a behavior.
Sometimes taking action is a matter of overcoming fear of the unknown.
Take opportunities
Opportunities and taking action go hand in hand.
Once a person has adopts the tendency of taking action,
opportunities always seem to present themselves.
This is because by taking action, the character of taking action
begins to develop and this is antagonistic to pessimism.
Pessimism many times blinds people from seeing opportunities.
This is because a pessimistic mind is ‘programed’ to defend. But by being an
action taker, the mind is ‘programed’ to progress/ advance.
So when you defend, you are not looking for another route
through. Rather, you are content with what is already there and trying to keep
it as it is. This means you are too occupied with trying to maintain the
current situation such that many times you do not see what is ahead.
An action taker on the other hand is not focused on what is
currently around but looking ahead for modification or edification.
No regrets
Everyone can and has made a mistake at some point.
What makes the difference is the ability to move forward. A
life of regret can negatively affect one’s self esteem.
When a mistake is made, it is edifying to admit that a wrong
was done. It helps in the improvement of personality, relationships, attitude
and an individual as a whole. However, the regret should not scar
you for life.
It should be a learning/ edification curve in life, not a breaking point.
It should be a learning/ edification curve in life, not a breaking point.
Never let yesterday’s wound scar you today.
As one philosopher said;
Our greatest strength is not in never falling but rising every time we fall.
I hope this was helpful.
